WRITE
After undergrad, I started my career as a freelance writer, specifically for independent Chicago outlets. I wrote about art, music, film, food – anything that was going on in the Arts & Culture scene. I acted as Editor for my own website, HEAVEmedia, until we ceased production in 2014. When I moved away from Chicago to pursue my MLIS, I desperately missed writing. I switched my writing career to focus on literature, specifically romance novels. I’m always looking for new and exciting outlets to write for, especially if they have a healthy focus on romance. I also dabble in fiction – my first comic book story was published in October 2015.
Places I’ve written for: Booklist Magazine (Print and Online), CCGC In Libraries, DecentX, The Deli Magazine Chicago, Flavorpill Chicago, Gapers Block, HEAVEmedia, Heroes & Heartbreakers, Horn Book Magazine, The Ladies Night Anthology Vol. 3: How to Magic, Library Journal, Love in Panels, Newcity Chicago, NoveList, Pensantos, and Shelf Awareness.
READ
I’m a voracious reader, which has only grown to be more of an obsession since becoming a librarian. While I mostly read science fiction, fantasy, and romance titles, I try to read as many genres as I can. I also read a lot of comic books, which led me to cosplaying.
STUDY
I graduated the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2016 with a Masters of Library & Information Science. In some ways this is a big departure from my undergraduate degree in Film Studies, but I’ve been finding subtle connections as my career progresses. I concentrated my studies on Archives and Special Collections, but have a strong interest in Readers’ Advisory and romance readership in public libraries. My Masters capstone project was on romance novels and romance readership, and I created a website with lib guides for different subgenres of romance.
My main interests in librarianship are bringing maker technology to everyone, readers advisory for romance readers, preservation of pop culture media, and the history of books and printing.
ETC.
My main hobbies are gardening, building new cosplays, and traveling. And reorganizing my personal library. Constantly.
